that she took on a "victim" demeanor. She pretended reality away and was so stunted emotionally that at 32' she behaved on the emotional level of an 18-year-old.
Brady ended her lecture with a question-andanswer. period, and asked the audience for their own

Women's Growth Coop made in becoming this Center? *
Wegi: We are responding to a much larger sense of women's needs. We have taken a risk in moving from a non-threatening environment of private homes and little offices. Women need to see that this Center is for them. We personally have taken a major step forward and have devoted our total time and energy to the Women's Wholistic Center. We want to expand our support base without sacrificing quality.
Wendy: But at the same time we are equal to the women we work with. I feel like a pioneer in new territory. The women's community in Cleveland has grown so much in ten years-they can support this, but will they?

at hand to poke fun at, her fascination with biological quips was disappointing.
As far as execution is concerned, however, Clinton is a pro. Her delivery was simple and clean, perfectly punctuated by her mellifluous voice. Kate's ability to set the stage with a modicum of words rivals a wellwritten scenario for screen. Although Clinton has not quite mastered the art of transition, her presentation was free from overt awkwardness and stagnant pauses. She exudes poise and self confidence, in spite of an occasional nervous laugh, and has the capacity of totally captivating an audience.
In all, an enjoyable evening was provided by this refreshing new personality in the relatively unexplored domain of feminist standup comedy. Her humor is a welcome relief from the hollow echoes of "Take my wife, please".
Making Light, Kate Clinton's first album, is produced by Whyscrack Records.
Ordination (continued from page 2)
fortable with the discomfort which growth and a commitment to pluralism create. (I observed at the conference, for instance, an unwillingness to allow the abortion issue to be used to divide women's loyalties.) I envision a group future which retains the right to act in a variety of ways to enable changemaking: cooperation, confrontation, withdrawal from traditional roles, creating new options, etc.
In summary, I believe that in 1982, culture and history have forced an even more radical and profound analysis of the effects of patriarchy (classism, racism, sexism, and heterosexism) to fall to Roman Catholic women: This view is supported by many women who have already won ordination in their churches and who have found that the structures of both time and institution have prevented them from engaging in necessary visionary and prophetic work. To those of my sisters who can identify with that particular hazard of having "made it," as well as to those who are questioning the separatist solution, know this: there is at least one ever-deepening radical idcological struggle that is alive and well, and in a very unlikely setting-the Roman Catholic Church.
suggestions for ending incest. She described a program in California in which the perpetrator must leave his home and children for at least three years. "The perpetrator has to lose," she explained. “And until he accepts responsibility for what he's done, he won't stop",

After several other possible solutions were elicited, a young woman spoke up. Surrounded by a sadness that I had learned to recognize so well, she said, "My father has ruined my life. I'm never going to forget what he did. I'm never going to forget what he took away from me". She started to cry, and Brady responded, "It's all right, hon, I know it hurts. Oh, how I know it hurts. And I know you won't forget it."
In closing, Brady asserted, "At almost 39, I finally feel whole. I finally feel like a survivor-no longer a victim. I want other victims to know that there is hope. And I want them to know that they are not alone and they are not to blame for what has happened to them".

and dishonest attempt to create an impression that racism was an element in the proceedings of the Grievance Committee. Demonstrably it was not.
The same person says, "When the recommendations were given to us, it was also suggested that we resign". That is not true. It was not suggested that the grievants resign.
Another erroneous statement in your article: "Board and Committee meetings are open, but they are not posted; one learns of them by word of mouth or by calling the Center". In the two years I have worked at the Center notices and minutes of board meetings have always been posted on the bulletin board in the Hot Line Room. As for committee and council meetings, since I have worked at the Center notices and minutes have been mailed to all members-I know, I have typed and made the necessary copies of many of the notices and minutes.
I repeat-there is no "turmoil" at the Rape Crisis Center, and all of us are determined that there shall be none. We are determined that the efforts of the very hard working staff, several dozen concerned volunteers, and an equally concerned board are not going to be undermined by the malice of a few people. We are in the third week of training sessions for a large class of new volunteers and, along with them, we are all determined that we will continue to "provide a voice to women (and men) to speak out against rape rather than suffer in silence".
Your article has done a grave disservice to all of us-the staff, the women and men who give their time to work on the Hot Line, Call Forwarding and as Hospital Advocates; and the men and women who give their time to serve on the board. Also (and you don't seem to realize this), you have done a serious disservice to the grievants in presenting their stories in the manner you have chosen.

We stand by the article which appeared in our last issue. Both before and after publication of that arti "ele, we invited the Executive Director and the 'Chairperson of the Board of the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center to submit statements or responses for publication in the last issue and or in this one. On both occasions, each declined.
